"At the Table When" explores the Coloured communities in South Africa, presenting the full interview transcripts from two documentary films spanning the first twenty years of democracy. It comprises a gathering of narratives, intertwining the stories of individuals whose experiences merit recognition from historical, psychological, racial, political, and post-apartheid perspectives.

The book transcends academic boundaries, appealing to a global audience while challenging established narratives about South Africa in American academia. In addition to the interviews, the author shares behind-the-scenes glimpses of international conferences, United Nations visits, and collaborations, providing a unique perspective on the making of the documentaries. This work stands as a tribute to the resilience, heritage, and complexities of Coloured communities, inviting readers to engage with and appreciate the diverse tapestry of South Africa's history.
